Twitter Circle – Twitter is Testing a Close Friends-Like Feature
Twitter Circle – Twitter is Testing a Close Friends-Like Feature
With Elon Musk being the new CEO of Twitter, a microblogging site, users should expect a variety of new features. The company’s most recent feature that it’s currently testing is known as Twitter Circle. With this feature, users can hand-pick a small group of 150 individuals to share their tweets with.
This new feature is similar to Instagram’s stories curation future – Close Friends, which lets users control the number of individuals to share their stories with.
Here is What to Expect from Twitter Circle
Twitter reported that it’ll allow its users to select a small group of 150 people and add them to their circle. They can add both non-followers and followers to the group. The company also stated that some tweets are not for everyone, which is why it believes Twitter Circle would come in handy.
Once users create their tweets and don’t wish to share the same with everyone, they can select an audience in the Choose Audience menu. From there, instead of everyone, they can opt for Twitter Circle.
Twitter tries to make individuals understand that this feature is not similar to Communities, which also tries to avoid content collapse by hiding tweets. The difference is that Communities are focused on specific discussions. Circle, on the other hand, are standard tweets, only that they’re not accessible to anyone.
This feature is put in place to emulate a locked account, but it’s better because you can lock some people from seeing your tweets without feeling like you’re in a locked account. It encourages privacy and is also easy to use. Members of your circle will see your tweets once you publish them.
It’s worth noting that while your members can see the tweets, they won’t be able to share them using the retweet icon. It’s true that this cannot prevent downloads and screenshots of your tweets, but this is the other place where the feature works like a locked account.
As a Twitter user, you should understand that just because your tweets are hidden from the public doesn’t imply that there are no rules. Elon is still not the full owner of the site, so expect to be banned from the site for bad behaviors and violations.
Twitter Circle has been in its development stages since last year. It started with things like Trusted Friends and Facets. Earlier this year, twitter had hinted about Flock, which should be the close friends feature. Expect to see the close friends feature in your twitter soon, if it isn’t there already.
